Optimal Sizing and Techno-Economic Analysis of Minigrid Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Tourist Destination Islands of Lake Tana, Ethiopia

Achieving universal electricity access is a challenging goal for the governments of developing countries such as Ethiopia. Extending national grid to remotely located, scattered, and island populations demands huge investment. This paper aims show techno-economic feasibility minigrid renewable energy system electrify Kibran Gabriel in Ethiopia, through execution simulation, optimization sensitivity analysis using Hybrid Optimization Models Energy Resources (HOMER Pro) software. The systems were compared with both diesel generation (DG) extension systems. hybrid photovoltaic (PV)/DG/battery more economically feasible other systems, best cost-effective option one including load flow (LF) strategy 25 kW PV, 10 DG, 40 kWh battery, 5 bi-directional convertor. optimal PV/DG/Battery system, having levelized cost (COE) USD 0.175/kWh, net present (NPC) 119,139 fraction (RF) 86.4%, reduces pollutant emissions by 33,102 kg/yr stand-alone DG system. variations global horizontal irradiance (GHI), price consumption considered analysis, result shows that will operate reasonably well.
